Kelsey Plum Reveals Why She Joined Unrivaled After Skipping First Season

Unrivaled's Phantom BC has a new member for the second season, and it's Los Angeles Sparks star Kelsey Plum.

In 2024, the then Aces player had an offer to join the Laces BC team for Unrivaled’s inaugural season, but chose to sit out to have time for herself.

"Last year, obviously, I wanted to play. It just wasn't the right time for me personally, but definitely supported from afar," Plum said.

In November 2024, Plum announced her decision, stating, "I've decided to not take part in the inaugural season of Unrivaled in order to take some more time for myself this offseason. I appreciate the league understanding and being so."

This year, however, she seems to be excited to take on this new project. Plum has also been vocal on the CBA negotiations, expressing her frustrations with the failure to come to a decision.

“So far, my experience has been nothing short of amazing, just the resources here, attention to detail, really. There's a lot of people that could take notes on just what they're doing and how it's just all in service of player health, wellness, and performance."

Having not played overseas since 2022, Kelsey Plum is grabbing opportunities with Unrivaled and Team USA’s training camp. “Being able to compete with the lights on, that to me is very exciting."

Kelsey Plum Muscles Past Caitlin Clark at Training Camp

With the FIBA World Cup coming up Setpember 2026, the training camp saw WNBA stars and Rookie prodigies come together for Team USA.

During a high-intensity Team USA Scrimmage, Clark found herself going up against a bucket from Plum. The moment went instantly viral.

While some fans trolled Clark online, calling it her getting “cooked,” others viewed it as a valuable “welcome to the pros” moment.

Plum’s aggressive plays underscored a key lesson for rookies transitioning to higher levels: “You have to know how to adjust to the physicality.” Plum is here to make a statement and it shows.

You can catch Plum in action on January 5th in Miami, Florida, against the Breeze BC team.
