Jan Jensen Shares Injury Update Following Iowa’s Win Over Ohio State

Once again, a senior guard was carried off the floor during a high-stakes game against Ohio State. This time, however, Iowa didn’t crumble and rolled to a dominant 91–70 win. And now, HC’s got an update.
Speaking at the postgame press conference on January 25, Jan Jensen addressed questions surrounding Taylor McCabe. The news, though, wasn’t what many were hoping for.
“Taylor is going to have an MRI later,” Jensen said. “Anytime that situation happens the way it did, you’re hoping against hope. But we don’t know for sure. I have strong faith, and we’re definitely going to be uplifting her. But it’s a tough one.”

Well, the concern is understandable. McCabe injured her knee on a non-contact play during Iowa’s first defensive possession. She was helped off the court and taken straight to the locker room.
She later returned to the bench at the start of the second quarter wearing street clothes. McCabe hugged her teammates and sat with an ice pack wrapped around her knee. Freshman Addie Deal replaced her on the floor. Still, McCabe’s absence leaves a significant void.
She is Iowa’s top three-point shooting threat, averaging 8.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. She’s shooting 37.8% from the field and 37.4% from beyond the arc. That kind of production isn’t easily replaced. And while Iowa improved to 18–2 overall and 9–0 in Big Ten play with the win, Ohio State managed to expose a familiar wound.
What happened two years ago?
Two years earlier, Molly Davis was carried off the floor on Iowa’s Senior Day against then-No. 2 Ohio State. That night, Caitlin Clark led the Hawkeyes to a 93–83 victory despite the emotional blow. History repeated itself on Saturday night.
But this time, it opened a door for someone new.
With McCabe’s status uncertain, Iowa may need a true team effort to fill the gap. And Addie Deal could play a critical role. She’ll need to adjust quickly to the speed and physicality of the game on both ends of the floor. Can she rise to the moment?
