Amidst the Indiana Fever’s latest hardwood victory, Caitlin Clark’s turnover troubles stuck out like a sore thumb. But WNBA analyst Rachel DeMita had a different point to make.
Getting past the 107-104 Dallas Wings’ heartbreak, Clark and the Fever closed the night on the Los Angeles Sparks with an 87-78 win. But when it came to CC’s game-high 6 turnovers, DeMita was quick to dismiss it.
"Honestly, I don't even mind the six turnovers tonight,” the analyst admitted in her Courtside Club podcast, breaking down the Fever vs Sparks game. “A couple of them were silly turnovers. A couple of them were her teammates, not being able to handle the ball. So is what it is.”
Clark’s turnovers came early in the game, and DeMita agreed that people were “going to call this out.” And rightfully so, as Clark also recorded a game-high 5 turnovers against the Wings on May 9.
However, what seemed to matter more to DeMita were Clark’s 24 points, 9 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals. Ultimately, the Fever managed to secure the first win of their season and tie the win-loss column at 1-1.
Although DeMita absolved the Fever star’s turnovers, there was one thing Clark visibly struggled with. And even DeMita couldn’t look past it.
Caitlin Clark’s 3-Pointer Shooting Struggle
Caitlin Clark and 3P shooting have been synonymous ever since her NCAA career. But lately, her shooting slump is hard to ignore. In fact, her 24 points came from 9-of-17 shooting from the field. And DeMita addressed it as well.
“Caitlin did struggle from the 3-point line,” she said. “She was actually running down the court, slapping herself in the head. You could tell she was just so frustrated that she's kind of been in this shooting slump.”
Against the Sparks, Clark managed just 1-of-7 shots from the deep and only 2-of-9 against the Wings. So far, her 3P shooting percentage stands at a shocking 18.8, which, as DeMita noted, is not “the way we know Caitlin Clark can shoot.”
But moving forward, do you think Clark will be able to overcome this slump soon? Let us know in the comments.
