"If This Were the NBA, People Would be Fired": WNBA Analyst Sounds off on Indiana Fever Amid Chaos

The Indiana Fever is facing intense scrutiny after failing to disclose Caitlin Clark’s back injury before a matchup with the New York Liberty. The league issued a formal warning to the Fever for their oversight, and a particular WNBA analyst is not pleased.

While no other action was taken against the Fever, the warning comes as a stark reminder that penalization will follow the disregard of rules. WNBA analyst Rachel DeMita recently commented on the Fever's blunder on May 21 on her X feed.

"I don't know if Caitlin staying with the Indiana Fever makes sense. If this were an NBA organization, people would be fired by now."

Questions were raised about Fever's lack of transparency with its fanbase regarding Clark's injury status. Fever updated Clark's injury status as out just 100 minutes before the game.

Official rules mandate that information about player injuries or illnesses needs to be reported to the organization by 5 pm local time the day before the game. The Fever changed Clark’s status to out at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, after announcing it on social media at 5:20 p.m.

DeMita continued to elaborate on the major lapse on the part of the Fever.

"This is the face of the league, your franchise player, your star player, who’s never had injuries...Even if it’s not the coach’s fault or the training staff’s fault, somebody has to go down for it."

Additionally, coach Stephanie White said they did not update the report because they thought Clark would play on Wednesday.

Back in September 2024, the Las Vegas Aces were fined for the same mistake. They did not include A’ja Wilson on their day-before injury report.

As for the Indiana Fever, it is not the first time they have been inaccurate in their reporting.

Analyst Digs Deeper Into Indiana Fever's Transparency Issues

This recent error by the Fever has caused deep-rooted issues about trust in the organization's reporting to be brought to the surface.

Analyst DeMita continued to speak against the Fever management, as she felt the fans were beginning to lose faith in the Fever's front office reporting.

"I feel like the damage is already done between the Indiana Fever's relationship with their fan base. They don't trust the reporting."

"And then this is kind of like a slap in the face … The reporting wasn't accurate last season (either), they hid so much."

The analyst is of the opinion that fans who had travelled miles to come see their franchise cornerstone, CC, perform were disappointed by this lapse from the Fever.

Although Fever won against Liberty 90-73, Clark's absence was noted by fans.

Fans would be keen to see whether Clark will play in the upcoming match tomorrow against the Golden State Valkyries.

Fever has been on a bumpy ride, winning three of five games played so far. They will be looking to stay in winning form, hopefully with Caitlin Clark.
