A'ja Wilson and Paige Bueckers may have left their collegiate careers behind, but an incident during the NCAA Final Four matchday displayed that their banters are often related to their alma mater.

Wilson, a former Gamecocks squad member, FaceTimed the reigning Rookie of the Year after South Carolina's 62-48 victory over Bueckers' collegiate team, the UConn Huskies. Prior to that, she also posted a couple of updates on Threads.

While Wilson's initial updates read, "HELL YEAHHHH" and "Oh Paigeeeeeeeeee....where are youuuu," the screenshot from their FaceTime displayed that they didn't mind having a friendly banter.

Bueckers told USA Today at the Team USAB training camp that she and Wilson had made a bet on the game, which consisted of Wilson wearing a UConn PE in the A'Twos or A'Ones in a preseason game should the Gamecocks lose. Subsequently, she will have to wear the South Carolina PEs should the Huskies lose.

Both players are stalwarts of their respective college programs. Bueckers led the Huskies to a national championship last year after defeating South Carolina. She followed that by getting drafted as the top pick in the WNBA Draft.

Meanwhile, A'ja Wilson has a statue outside of Colonial Life Arena at the University of South Carolina.

The three-time WNBA champion was part of the Gamecocks team that won the 2017 national title, Staley's first of three championships at South Carolina, with maybe a fourth on the way.

Regardless of all this, it can be safely said that fans were thoroughly entertained by Wilson's friendly exchange of jibes with Bueckers.

Fans online loved the interaction between the duo and thought it added another element to an already historic rivalry between the Huskies and the Gamecocks.

"A’ja is the biggest troll lmao," a fan liked Wilson's sense of humour.

"LMAO! You know PB is feeling it for Azzi." One user opined that Bueckers must be feeling bad for her partner and former teammate, Azzi Fudd, after the tough loss.

Moments like these show how closely connected women’s college basketball and the WNBA are, regardless of age, with a huge amount of talent emerging every year.
