‘I Take Pride in That’: Azzi Fudd Drops Bold Warning That WNBA Teams Can’t Ignore Before Draft

Azzi Fudd is on the brink of ending her UConn Huskies tenure and entering the W League, and she knows what she can bring to the table?
Let’s start with the NCAA career. The senior Guard was a dominating force in the Huskies' unbeaten 34-0 entry into March Madness. As UConn will start as the No. 1 seed, Fudd will again be the cornerstone. But she already knows what she has for the WNBA.
“If you draft me, you get a really good shooter”, said Fudd in a Self magazine interview on March 19. “You're gonna get someone who can score at all three levels. You're gonna get a really great defender. I’m taking pride in that.”
Fudd's stats would back up that claim aptly. The 23-year-old has a sharp 50/40/90 shooting split. She’s going 48.9% from the field, 44.6% from beyond the 3P arc, and 95.1% free throw. And for defense, she has been rated an elite defender by ESPN.
So, whatever draft pick she ends up as, Fudd’s the player that the league shouldn’t be sleeping on. But for now, at the end of her tunnel vision is another NCAA title. And no one knows that better than the coach.
Azzi Fudd’s “Last Chance” to Show She Has Got Game
In 2021, an 18-year-old Fudd joined Geno Auriemma’s team as a five-star recruit. But among injuries, chances to show her prime game were fewer. But this season has been the best for Fudd, who hasn’t missed a single match, and Auriemma knows what she’s going for.
“I’m sure there’s a part of Azzi that’s unbelievably excited — it’s her last chance to get another national championship”, said Geno. “Knowing what Azzi’s been through, what she’s had to go through all these years, I would think she sees this as, ‘I deserve this after what I’ve been through.”
UConn kept its legacy by last year’s title win, but it was Paige Bueckers’ time. While Fudd put up strong games and has been to other Final Fours before, “none of them (were) where she played a big part.”
So, “another Final Four, another incredible run,” but the last chance for Fudd to show that she indeed is one of the best Shooting Guards nationwide.
Do you think Fudd will be able to keep up her game in the W league?
