‘Humble Yourself’: Fans Divided Over Flau’jae Johnson’s ‘Sharp’ Reply to Reporter

The LSU Tigers did not miss a single beat after Angel Reese's departure, as 22-year-old Flau'jae Johnson completely took over as the face of the franchise in no time.
The Tigers have been in all the big conversations this season with a 26-4 overall record with Johnson in the driving seat, averaging 14.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists. The LSU star is meant to dominate in the pros sooner rather than later.
But her ambitions do not stop within the court, as she has already made a name for herself in the pop-culture bubble as a rapper, building her discography while still in college.
Johnson has connected with Jay Z's Roc Nation label, which has enabled her to collaborate further with world-famous artists like Lil Wayne, NLE Choppa, and 2Rare.
In a recent press conference interview during the game week against Tennessee, LSU reporter Reed Darcy asked the LSU star how she is "trying" to manage to excel in both of her career choices, to which the 22-year-old had a stern reply that made even coach Kim Mulkey smile.
“Not trying, did. So, I think I did pretty good. Won a national championship, did a song with Lil Wayne. I got my own label. About to start signing artist. So, I’m doing my thing. Um, but that’s just who I am. That’s the legacy that I wanted to leave. And I feel like I did it and I did it in a in a good manner,” Johnson said.
Flau'jae has been pursuing to rap since childhood in honour of her late father, Camoflauge, who was in the same stream.
“Like my music never had me distracted from basketball. I always overworked myself and outworked everybody that I could so I could show people like this is who I am. Like this is just what I do. It’s not just music or basketball."
The LSU star's breakthrough moment arrived when she received the Golden Buzzer while performing on America's Got Talent and went on to win the BET Amplified Artist award in 2024.
"It’s like who I am as a person. So um just have to thank Coach Mulkey and everybody for just allowing me to be me. But it’s also like me putting in the work and me giving them that trust that I’m gonna be able to handle my business was a big part of it too,” the NCAA women's champion added.
Fans quickly jumped on her statements, while some supported Johnson, believing that her accomplishments back her attitude, and others preferred the 22-year-old to stay more on the humble side of things.
“This is why I will never rock with this young lady!! Humble yourself,”
"Flau’jae is EXACTLY who she thinks she is. And Mulkey is so damned proud of her. Love their connection."
"She’s so unlikeable."
"People have no reason to disrespect her. She works her butt off to succeed."
"Just shows how arrogant she is"
"I LOOOOOVE THAT KIM IS JUST SMILING LIKE A PROUD MOMMA OR AUNTIE"
Flau'jae Johnson's Mother backs her after Recent Loss to South Carolina
After a tough loss against South Carolina last month, Flau'jae Johnson's mother, Kim Brooks, shared her outlook on the V-Day matchup in the context of her daughter's performance.
“We have never beat South Carolina, cool. But what is going on today, Flau’jae is beating South Carolina in real life. No disrespect to them girls, no disrespect to Dawn [Staley], [but] we beating them in real life.” Brooks said on her Instagram live.
Johnson finished the game with 21 points and 8 rebounds, but the Tigers came up seven points short against the Gamecocks in one of the most-watched college basketball games of the season.
