While Meghan McPeak’s broadcasting career is about to change tracks, her current associates, the Washington Wizards, didn't miss out on appreciating her contributions to the side.

McPeak will be moving from the NBA sidelines to the WNBA play-by-play commentary, signalling an upgrade in her field. But going forward, she’ll be taking the warm farewell memory the Wizards set up for her.

“Miss McPeak, you have been with us for so many years”, started Anthony Gill. “We appreciate you so much for all that you do. You have been the voice for our team, communicating what's going on in our huddles to the world… We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

The team slowly gathered around the reporter, handing her towels and a game ball as a token of love and appreciation. And being with the Wizards since 2018, Gill knew McPeak “deserved this more than anybody else.”

Beginning with the Capital City Go-Go in 2018, McPeak became the first female broadcaster to call an NBA game in nearly 30 years. A departure after 8 years will be tough, but she admitted that she will “forever" root for the Wizards.

While moving to the next chapter is McPeak’s individual feat, the 36-year-old reporter had an even bigger reason driving her actions.

Meghan McPeak’s Inspirational Step-Up

McPeak knew what it’s like to be the “first” one to do something. In 2021, she entered the first all-woman broadcast crew for Canada’s TSN. McPeak played the play-by-play commentator. And behind this was a bigger drive.

“If I and these women as a whole make an impression on just one girl watching out there,” she said. “Who’s watching the game with her dad or her mom, and she looks up and sees women announcing a professional event, and she says ‘I want to do that’ or ‘I can do that,’ that’s worth it.”

Previously, McPeak has worked with the Washington Mystics. So, going back to the W league isn’t really a huge change. But it is her approach that matters the most.

Do you find her inspirational? Comment it down.
