Women's soccer blew up financially in 2025. With elite talent on the market, soccer clubs broke transfer records across Europe and the US.

The message was clear : women’s football has entered a new era. And these 5 highest transfer fees are proof enough of that.

5. Naomi Girma sets the tone with Chelsea

Naomi Girma set the benchmark at the beginning of the year. In January 2025. Chelsea signed Girma from San Diego Wave for £883,000 ($1.1 million), making her the first million-dollar player in the women's game.

Girma is already considered one of the best centre-backs in the entire world, a reputation she earns from her time in the NWSL. At 24, she already has an Olympic gold from Paris 2024.

4. Olivia Smith breaks barriers with Arsenal

Arsenal came into the mix right after Chelsea set the record. In July, they signed Liverpool's Olivia Smith, making her the first million-pound player in women’s football ($1.3m/€1.15m).

The 20-year-old took Liverpool to victory in the FA quarterfinal against Arsenal. The Gunners were so impressed, they had to get her for Arsenal, even if it meant paying a fee that had never seen before.

3. Chelsea doubled with Alyssa Thompson

It seems Chelsea wasn't done spending yet. Just as the WSL deadline hit, they secured Alyssa Thompson from Angel City in a deal that reportedly became a club record.

While different sources state numbers around the £1M mark, sources like the Telegraph and the Guardian said it surpassed the fee paid for Girma.

2. Lizbeth Ovalle makes history

In August, Tigres’ Lizbeth Ovalle became the first Mexican player, female or male, to break a world transfer record with a $1.5 million signing.

Orlando Pride raised the bar for Ovalle with this transfer. She is already a legend in Liga MX Femenil with six league titles and over 50 international caps. Now she arrives in the NWSL as a global star.

1. Grace Geyoro tops them all

The highest price was yet to come. Michele Kang’s London City Lionesses paid a fee of €1.65 million to sign PSG captain Grace Geyoro.

The 28-year-old midfielder has become the most expensive women’s transfer in history. One of the best in the world, she brings experience and leadership to the franchise.

With Women's Soccer taking off, one can only anticipate how 2026 is going to be. What do you think? Tell us in the comments!
