Fever’s Caitlin Clark delivers historic stat line never before seen in WNBA history

Caitlin Clark is doing things on a basketball court that no one has ever witnessed before. The 24-year-old maintained her reputation with a one-of-a-kind stat in the Fever's last match.

After the Fever vs. Mystics game on May 15, a Facebook post from Guccirips disclosed that Clark became the first player in WNBA history to record 75 or more points along with 20 or more assists in the first three games of a season.

CC22 has already amassed 76 points with 24 assists in just the three games her side has played so far in the season. The post revealing Clark's newly-formed record read, "Caitlin Clark continues making WNBA history. She is the first player in league history to record 75+ points and 20+ assists through the first 3 games of a season."

However, despite establishing a personal record, the night was a forgettable one for Clark. The final line of the aforementioned post highlighted the contrast between her and the Fever's overall performance.

It read, "In tonight’s 104-102 OT loss to Washington, she finished with 32 points, 8 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals."

Cark's shooting splits included 10-of-28 from the floor, 7-of-17 from three-point range, and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free-throw line.

However, talking about the loss, Clark explained, "We’ve been letting making shots dictate how well we played defense too much. Which is disappointing for us as a group."

Following the Fever's season-opener, Clark became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 1,000 points, 250 rebounds, and 250 assists. She overcame Diana Taurasi by achieving this in only 54 games.

Nevertheless, the Fever's early-season flaws are preventing these individual performances from translating into wins.

Great individual numbers can’t hide the biggest problem for the Indiana Fever

A look at the Fever's 2026 stats so far says that the team averages around 97.7 points per game. This is one of the best offensive marks in the league early on.

Clark is also supported by Kelsey Mitchell, who has constantly posted 20 or more points. Despite this, the team struggles to win games, and its root cause lies in the defensive end.

Regardless of the Fever's remarkable offense, their opponents are scoring over 96 points per game on average. The Mystics also managed to score 104 points, subjecting the Fever to a mere 2-point defeat. Rebounding problems have also been a major issue for the team.

There were blown opportunities in all three games so far. Mitchell missed late free throws in overtime against Washington. The team also lost control late against Dallas in their season opener.

So, the Fever’s ceiling will depend a lot on whether their defense can catch up to the levels of their offense.

What do you think the Fever needs to change first to start winning close games like their last one?
