Sophie Cunningham's latest appearance at Gainbridge Fieldhouse saw the Indiana Pacers edge out the Boston Celtics, and also prompted multiple fans to present the same wish to the Indiana Fever authorities.
Cunningham attended the match with Jade Jones, Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton's girlfriend, and their friend Abbie. However, the trio seemingly brought more than just support from the sidelines.
After the final buzzer, Cunningham jokingly claimed their trio as the Pacers' lucky charm. She posted one of their selfies to her Instagram story and mentioned, "We aren't taking credit BUT every time us three are together, the @pacers win."
The official Fever X account did the due diligence and posted “Sophie Cunningham in the house sitting courtside for tonight’s @Pacers game ❤️🔥.”
Several fans took to the comments section of the update to express their opinions, but quite a few of them voiced similar thoughts.
They urged the Fever authorities to bring Cunningham back to the franchise, with comments like "Put her in" and "Bribe her with whatever it takes, idc, just bring her back."
While Cunningham’s presence at the courtside added a layer of crossover between the WNBA and NBA communities, her future continues to be uncertain, given the current scenario of the WNBA.
The halted CBA negotiations make Sophie Cunningham's WNBA future hazy
Cunningham's return to Indiana, even just as a spectator, brings up the free agency conversation. The guard has already spoken about wanting to return to the Fever, but the stalled CBA negotiations have frozen all WNBA free agency activity.
Despite the unknowns, her affection for the Fever remains clear. In a recent interview with KRGC Newsroom, she called getting traded to the Fever "her favorite W moment."
However, it remains to be seen whether Cunningham takes to the court in the Fever jersey in the upcoming WNBA season.
