Last month, DiJonai Carrington missed Chicago Sky training camp after undergoing minor surgery on her left foot, but she has now shared a positive update ahead of the 2026 season, which begins on May 9.
Earlier today, DiJonai Carrington spoke for the first time since signing a one-year deal with the Chicago Sky in April 2026, sharing her thoughts on the revamped roster and playing alongside Skylar Diggins, Courtney Vandersloot, Kamilla Cardoso, and Rickea Jackson, while also providing an update on her injury.
“It’s a very comforting feeling, knowing I have a couple of weeks to go still. I feel good. I just can’t wait to get. I mean. It’s been September," DiJonai Carrington said during the Chicago Sky 2026 media day.
“That was the last time I played a game. It’s been a long time. Obviously, I’m back in the boot for a little bit, but don’t let that fool you. I’m not taking that many steps backwards. It’s just temporary because of the hardware removal surgery," she added.
Carrington hasn’t played since September 2025, when she injured her left foot against the Golden State Valkyries. She also missed the 2026 Unrivaled season while recovering.
DiJonai Carrington is expected to be sidelined for 4-6 weeks with no definitive timeline for her return, which could mean she misses early-season games.
The Chicago Sky’s dynamic bench guard is a vital part of their lineup. Even with missed starts and injuries last season, Carrington still put up impressive stats: 9.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game.
Now, after more than six months away, her return gives the Chicago Sky hope as they prepare for the new season following a 10-win year and missing the playoffs again.
But while her recovery is trending in the right direction, DiJonai Carrington’s path here hasn’t been easy.
DiJonai Carrington Endures Another Injury Challenge
“It’s super disappointing, especially with how everything ended up playing out. So, I’m definitely a little down right now. I’m getting ready to get my surgery and all that,” DiJonai Carrington said in October after her September injury.
The hardware removal procedure is common and used to treat pain, irritation, or infection from implants.
Carrington has been through a lot physically, but she now seems to be doing well, although this wasn’t her first injury.
Before turning 25, she had two ACL injuries that led to six knee surgeries.
Last season, she also missed time with a rib injury, and her year eventually ended because of the foot injury, taking a heavy toll on her body.
So, do you think DiJonai Carrington can make an immediate impact for the Chicago Sky after her return? Let us know your thoughts.
