“Didn’t Behave Big”: Alysa Liu Wins Hearts After Kind Fan Interaction

Alysa Liu may have been the absolute “showgirl on ice” in Milan, but her recent fan interaction highlighted the type of person she is off the ice.

The 20-year-old led Team USA to a gold medal in the group event before securing an individual gold in her short program. But that’s the story of the ice rink. When a fan bumped into Liu at a Target store in the Bay Area, she felt less like a celeb and more like a girl next door.

“She seems like a sweet person and super down to earth,” fitness coach Camilo Riveros posted on Instagram on March 8. “She didn’t behave ‘too big’ to talk to me and treated everybody else with a ton of kindness.”

Riveros, who ran into Liu in Emeryville, is a gym coach. He posted the photo of them together, where Liu is seen smiling widely and posing with Rivero. He has also highlighted how grateful he was to be “able to meet and talk to her (Liu) for a moment”.

However, Riveros’ caption also mentioned that “the other folks recognised her and blew up the scene”. It was the very same kind of “blow up” Liu reported just a few days ago, emphasising the concerning part of having fame.

Alysa Liu’s Recent Airport Incident

Ever since her historic performance in the Milan Cortina, Alysa Liu has been a household name. But the Oakland native learned the other aspect of having fame the hard way when overexcited fans invaded her personal space horribly, on March 4.

“So, I land at the airport, & there’s a crowd waiting at the exit with cameras & things for me to sign,” Liu wrote on the same night in her Instagram story. “All up in personal space. Someone chased me to my car, bruh. Please do not do that to me.”

Liu’s request proved again that while the fans are an integral part of an athlete’s life, the athletes are also just as human as everyone else.

But despite this bad experience, Liu stuck to her usual bubbly, joyous, and amiable persona as she took a photo with Riveros. What do you think about this? Let us know in the comments.
