Dave Portnoy Slams Syracuse HC’s ‘Wild’ Tournament Complaint

Mar 25, 2026, 6:19 PM CUT

Just yesterday, Ferisha Legette-Jack was wondering if she was crying over “spilled milk,” and in the span of some hours, Dave Portnoy came up with an answer.

Given the NCAA matchups, the Syracuse Orange has a history of losses to the UConn Huskies. Yesterday’s 98-45 was no different, and following the game, Jack expressed her frustration, but Portnoy displayed no interest in agreeing with her.

“This is an all-time wild rant”, the Barstool Sports’ inventor took to X on March 25. “Syracuse Women’s coach complaining that they keep losing to UConn in the East bracket”, with 3 laughing emojis at the end.

Out of 7 appearances, the Orange lost to the Huskies 5 times, with 3 being on UConn’s home court. Her Buffalo squad also fell off against the Huskies in 2019. And Jack has called this pattern “unfair to the young people” and a “personal attack.”

The crux of her statement was that being “in this particular bracket every fricking year is unacceptable.” And while Portnoy highlighted this as a “wild rant”, there was no lack of respect on Jack’s end for UConn.

Syracuse HC Maintained Her Respect for UConn

Legette-Jack was one of the prospective recruits of Geno Auriemma during his assistant coach tenure at the University of Virginia. And she was referred to the Syracuse Orange by the Huskies’ Head Coach. So, respect was visible in her statement.

“Just before I go, I just want to say thank you, UConn, for growing women's basketball to newfound heights every year. You just make it great," Legette-Jack said. She also highlighted how she plans on coming back in the next meeting.

“Our hope is that we can grow our program so that we can be competitive enough,” she added further. “So, when they bring us back here next year, we'll be more prepared. Thank you. God bless."

Her statement may have sounded like a rant, but it was mainly about her frustration stemming from her candidates not getting a “fighting chance.”

So, after learning everything, do you agree with Portnoy?
