Darianna Littlepage-Buggs narrowly missed her 41st career double-double, finishing with 25 points and eight rebounds in Baylor’s 82–66 win over Houston. Still, she managed to accomplish a major milestone.
Littlepage-Buggs recorded her 1,000th career rebound during Baylor’s 56–52 win over Colorado on January 8. She was formally honored by her side before Tuesday’s game against Houston. Baylor HC Nicki Collen presented her with a commemorative ball recognizing the milestone she achieved.
Following the felicitation, Collen said, "Buggs is one of those people that just gives your team whatever it needs," The 1000 rebounds feat places her in the elite group that includes Suzie Snider Eppers, Sophia Young, Brittney Griner, NaLyssa Smith, Nina Davis, and Kalani Brown.
Speaking about her achievement, the 22-year-old said, "A lot of people can’t do that—don’t do that. Even just to get that, it’s always been a blessing. It’s just special to have that accolade."
She now ranks seventh all-time in Baylor history with 1,067 rebounds. But while this accomplishment is huge, it wasn’t the only attraction on Tuesday Night.
How Darianna Littlepage-Buggs Helped Baylor Win?
Baylor held Houston to just 19 points in the first half. But then they surrendered 25 points in the third quarter and were outscored 47–46 over the final two periods.
And that was exactly when Littlepage-Buggs took control. She went 4-for-4 from the field and scored 10 straight points, helping extend Baylor’s lead to 53–33.
"I was running… I don’t remember what I was doing," she said. “But my teammates found me, and I just put the ball in the hoop. Shoutout to my teammates—they gave me the ball."
Her impact didn’t stop there. She also delivered on the defensive end in the final five minutes. She missed her final five shots and was outscored 11–2 down the stretch. And that’s how Baylor sealed its eighth straight win.
