The Chicago Sky is getting one big change for next. According to new reports, the team is getting an 80,000 square foot facility.

On February 23, I talk Hoops, who broke the news on X, updating about the new facility’s completion and measurement.

“The Chicago Sky’s practice facility is nearing completion, and the 80,000-square-foot facility is expected to be the largest in the WNBA this spring”, the post read. It also featured some pictures of the new facility.

The initial plan was to make it 52,000 square-foot but the number exceeded. So did the costing, which went from $40M to $60 million. And Sky’s co-owner and operating chairman, Nadia Rawlinson, called it a “table stakes”.

“This now, especially for the WNBA, is table stakes. What once was sufficient has now become ho-hum, so let’s figure out how we can stay ahead of the curve for the benefit of players. That was the predicate for expanding these conversations; what else can we add, how do we make this even better than what we initially imagined?”

What the Chicago Sky Owner Thinks About The Change

Michael Alter, the Sky’s majority owner, talked about the new facility. "We joined a project already in process, and as we had more time to think about what we really needed, we realized we needed to substantially rethink and redesign it."

And they did so! Not only does the facility have dedicated recovery areas for the players, but there's a doctor's office and wellness centers.

As per Rawlinson, "As a league, we want to be on the forefront of supporting everything that is needed for women to be excellent at their craft."
