Carmelo Anthony Shreds Chicago Sky Over Angel Reese Trade

Apr 11, 2026, 2:39 PM CUT

Angel Reese’s trade was probably the craziest way to put the new CBA to work. But Carmelo Anthony knows who benefits from it the most.

The Bayou Barbie reached her Dream house, moving from Chicago to Atlanta. But how much of it falls into the right place? Anthony pointed it out perfectly in the latest episode of his 7 PM in Brooklyn podcast.

“I think it was needed for both parties,” the NBA icon explained. “She was getting too big for the organisation. She needs to be in a place like Atlanta, in a community that supports her. Not to say Chicago didn't support her. (They) just have a history of butting heads with talent.”

The “draining” part about the Sky is not having a roster with the same “mentality and competitiveness.” Reese, whose talent, brand, and fame have outgrown her team, also expressed frustration with the organisation last year.

So, per Anthony, the Dream fits the league’s leading rebounder more. They finished as the 3rd seed in the Eastern Conference, with Brittney Griner on the roster. And now, Reese can play with a team that has “championship aspirations.”

Reese’s level of play will rise higher with a much more competent team. And moving forward, Anthony outlined how Reese’s mindset will shift.

Carmelo Anthony on Angel Reese’s New Approach

Last year, the Dream reached the playoffs with a franchise record of 30–14. This is the team that already got its game right and just needed “one of the missing pieces”, which is Reese. And Melo knew what was next.

“You really have an intentional approach to what you're going to do”, he explained. “It's a different intentionality that you have now because everybody else around is uplifting you, too. So now you've got to figure out how to uplift yourself and everybody else as well.”

What he meant is that, in the upcoming games, among a roster that strives to win, Reese will have to grow out of the mindset she had in Sky. But while dealing with it, the Atlanta Barbie will benefit largely.
