While 2026 keeps proving to be a transformative year for the WNBA, Cameron Brink and LeBron James were part of the celebration together.
If the new CBA and team expansions weren’t impressive enough, the W league celebrated its 30th season anniversary recently, which will tip off on May 8. And this created a chance for the two Los Angeles stars to share a frame.
“LeBron James & Cameron Brink, the 30th WNBA season tips off Friday, May 8!” NBA’s X post on April 11 read. The video captured Brink and James posing for a photo together, having a quick chat and parting ways.
As one of the league’s original 8 franchises established in 1997, the Sparks were invited to the retro program, “Court Origins Nights”, held on April 7. And it was inevitable that Brink would meet the Lakers’ star there.
The NBA icon showed up in a WNBA T-shirt as a tribute to the league, while Brink stole the moment with her iconic style. And this marked a special moment for the Sparks, who celebrated their own 30th season as a league trailblazer.
The night passed with 1997-era rewinding and unpacking great moments. But moving forward, the Sparks have to sort out their roster planning.
A Look at the LA Sparks’ Potential Roster for the 2026 WNBA season
Per the new CBA, teams could core one of their players and pass qualifying offers by April 7. Negotiations with free agents continued, but any official deal could be signed on the 11th onwards. And the Sparks are already moving.
The team has cored Kelsey Plum, while the 10X WNBA All-Star and 2016 MVP, Nneka Ogwumike, is returning to Los Angeles. After the last 2 seasons at the Seattle Storm, she’ll pick up her earlier 12-season run with the Sparks.
Meanwhile, Brink and Rickea Jackson are under rookie contracts, with a buzz of Jackson signing with the Chicago Sky. But such a move might leave the Sparks’ young core talent group in a tight position.
No official update has come through yet, but moving forward, do you think losing Jackson will turn out to be any good for the Sparks?
