The Indiana Fever are heading into what might be their most important season yet, and that is why Caitlin Clark was so relieved seeing Aliyah Boston on the bench.
Boston was finally available for Indiana's preseason game against Nigeria. In a viral moment, CC and Boston were seen sharing a tight hug with each other prior to the game.
It did not take long for Clark to share that video on her Instagram stories, but with an added caption that summed up her and the Fever fandom's entire feelings. “Suddenly all was right in the world.” CC wrote.
The embrace highlighted the significance of their on-court reunion. While recurring soft injuries sidelined Clark for most of last season, Boston held the fort together in her absence.
She averaged a career-high 15.0 points on 53.8% shooting, along with 8.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists. Alongside Kelsey Mitchell, she led the Fever to an unexpected semifinal run.
Boston got the fruits of her labour, as she signed a massive four-year, $6.3 million contract with the Fever in April. It is the richest contract in WNBA history to date, joining four-time MVP A'ja Wilson's contract on a year-to-year basis.
While an unfortunate injury during her time with Phantom BC in Unrivaled put her on the sidelines for a short period of time, Boston was able to participate in the Fever's training camp.
“I just had a lower leg injury, and right now I’m feeling good to go,” Boston said back then. “Ready to get to work.”
The management still exercised caution and kept Boston out of the preseason games against the New York Liberty and Dallas Wings.
But as expected, Boston lit the court on fire when she was called up to play against Nigeria. In just ten minutes, she recorded 4 points and a team-high 6 assists.
It will take time for Boston to get ready to play full minutes. The Fever management would like to be as safe as possible, especially due to last year's mishaps.
And that goes for Caitlin Clark as well, although she proved during preseason that she does not need much time on the court to make an impact.
Caitlin Clark Looks Ready as Fever Prepare for the Regular Season
Clark opened her account with the Fever after almost ten months out against the New York Liberty. She had a modest 7 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds in just 17 minutes, a cautious yet controlled start.
Clark dominated the Dallas Wings in the following matchup. She finished with 21 points in 16 minutes after a fantastic first-half display where she scored 14.
She did have a slight knock during the third quarter, which forced her off the floor. Clark showed no signs of injury during the game against Nigeria.
Clark and the Fever ended their preseason with a 105-57 blowout victory against Nigeria. The 24-year-old found her rhythm, scoring 12 points, two rebounds, four assists, a steal, and two triples in just 13 minutes of play.
CC and Boston now have a week to prepare themselves for their first regular-season matchup against the Dallas Wings on May 9.
