What began as a polished Adidas campaign featuring Sophie Cunningham quickly turned into an unexpected moment for Fever fans, all thanks to Caitlin Clark’s perfectly timed honesty.
On February 5, Cunningham teamed up with Adidas and shared a series of photos from her latest shoot, with the spotlight firmly on her sneakers. The post checked every influencer box.
“These are legit everyone’s favorite shoes! Dress them up or down. So swaggy yet elevated and clean… thank me later @adidasoriginals,” Cunningham penned. However, Clark was not on the same page.
Instead of playing along, the 23-year-old Iowa native dropped a playful jab that instantly lit up the comments. “I promise you they aren’t my favorite,” she wrote.
While it was clearly a joke, fans noticed it immediately, and Clark's joke became the most liked comment on the post, currently sitting at over 950 likes.
Last year, Sophie even served as CC’s caddie at a Pro-Am event. So all this playful trolling feels natural. However, the banter didn’t stop there.
Sophie Cunningham’s Cheeky Response to Caitlin Clark
Sophie Cunningham liked Clark’s comment and fired right back. “Caitlin Clark and I promise you we get better treated at adidas,” she wrote.
Cunningham was poking fun at Clark’s massive $28 million Nike deal, that's yet to produce the promised signature shoe.
CC has been waiting nearly two years for her signature shoe. For a long time, Nike stayed quiet. And it wasn’t until last year that the brand officially partnered with her.
First came CC’s signature logo. Then followed ad campaigns featuring the Fever superstar. Meanwhile, Adidas has been highly active with Cunningham. The brand has consistently featured her in campaigns. Notably, last November, the sports giant helped elevate the annual Sophie Cunningham Classic. And they’ve continued to promote her through frequent ads.
