Caitlin Clark returned to Indianapolis carrying her MVP award from Puerto Rico. While success met criticism several times, the star had a clear point to make.

Freshly recovered from a season-ending injury, Clark made her Team USA debut in San Juan. While she shone in the national jersey, her behaviour with the referees was scrutinised. But the Indiana Fever star had a question.

“If you watch the men’s games, that’s how it is”, said Clark. “Why can’t women play with that same emotion, that same passion? That’s what people want to watch. They don’t wanna watch people running around with stoic faces, not having a good time, not competing, not celebrating.”

The 24-year-old led the qualifiers in scoring, assists, and efficiency. She averaged 11.6 points and 6.4 assists and bridged the roster with her seamless playmaking. It came with some arguments with the refs, but “that’s what makes it fun” for Clark.

So, as a competitor, Clark summed it up quickly: “If I didn’t play with that mentality, I wouldn’t be the player that I am.” And this wouldn’t be her first time saying this, or following this motto.

Caitlin Clark Always Showed Emotion on the Court

For two-time Olympic gold medallist Angel McCoughtry, Clark’s ‘crash outs’ were “bad calls”. “Wearing USA on your chest (in) a bigger stage (where) the whole world is watching”, CC should’ve given a “little shrug.”

But a player who has been playing like that ever since her rookie year, there was no place for a “little shrug”. In 2025, amidst the Indiana Fever’s injury-ridden time, Clark charged with emotion and frustration at the officials in a game.

She publicly confronted referees after a controversial no-call, and visibly argued with an official before being restrained by a coach. Earlier in the season, she also criticised the league’s ways, writing, “Refs couldn't stop us."

Sure, she earned a light penalty of a $200 fine. But nothing has really stopped the Fever star from showing her raw emotions on the paint.

And as she said, Caitlin Clark wouldn’t be Caitlin Clark without that mentality. Do you agree?
