Things were going well for Brionna Jones overseas until they were not. As the WNBA season nears, the Atlanta Dream star will return home with bad news.

On February 6, ZVVZ USK Praha declared on an Instagram post that Jones will not play further in this season. Instead, she’ll return for surgery in the U.S.

The caption read, “Brionna Jones suffered a knee injury during the game against Basket Ostrava and, unfortunately, we will not see her on the court again this season.” It also mentioned the “conservative treatment” she received, which did not work.

“The club initially attempted to resolve the situation through conservative treatment, but after ten days, it was decided that Brionna will need to undergo surgery, which she has chosen to have in the USA.”

Jones has been playing for USK Praha since 2019. However, her last game with the Czech club was on January 22. Where she scored 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 assist.

While this injury ends her overseas season, Jones’ 2026 WNBA career doesn’t look good either

Brionna Jones Tackles Free Agency

The 29-year-old played for the Connecticut Sun for most of her career in the WNBA. But then she committed to the Dreams in 2025, under a one-year contract. She averaged 12.8 points and 7.3 rebounds while recording 12 double-doubles with the Dream in the last season.

However, with an expired contract, Jones is an unrestricted free agent. But the good news is that the previously stalled CBA situation has resumed. The W league submitted its new proposal on February 6.

Although the current proposal’s status remains unclear, it still marks progress after the 15-month pause.

And the WNBA players' union president, Nneka Ogwumike, sounded confident. She admitted that it will require significant work to get the season started on time. However, she maintained that the season will be played.

But the problem prevails for Jones. Even if the Dreams get to re-sign their 24, the new injury poses the question of whether she’ll be able to play or not.

Do you think Jones will manage to make it to the court by May 8? Comment down your thoughts.
