Becky Hammon Highlights Core Trio’s Return ahead of Aces Media Day

Las Vegas Aces coach Becky Hammon is happy after the team secured the futures of core players A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray, and Jackie Young in the desert city.

In an interview with FOX 5 News' Paloma Villicana, Hammon expressed her pleasure in coaching such a crop of players who make her job fun, and also highlighted the immense potential the team has ahead of the start of the new season.

"The players are the greatest part about the job, not only for fans but also the coaches. To have the quality of the people that they are, combined with the best basketball players in the world, they make it fun to come to work. It's not by accident that they are good, they put in the work and time, and they are invested in each other. So it has the potential for really making something special."

The Aces completed the renewal of star player A'ja Wilson on a mammoth three-year, $5 million contract, making her the highest-earning player in the WNBA alongside Indiana Fever center Aliyah Boston.

To say it was deserved is an understatement. Wilson is a four-time MVP and a cornerstone of the franchise who led them to three WNBA championships. She was also the co-Defensive Player of the Year last season after averaging 23.4 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.

Chelsea Gray's eleven-year experience in the league also brings a huge advantage to the Aces. The 33-year-old is still one of the best playmakers around and was instrumental in all three of the Aces' championships, winning the Finals MVP in 2022.

The Aces completed their dream trio by adding four-time All-Star guard Jackie Young, who will earn $1.19 million next season. The No.1 overall draft pick from 2019 averaged 16.5 points, 5.1 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game last season.

With the 'Big 3' secured for next season, the Aces will be hoping for yet another back-to-back title run.

The Aces Are Hoping for Another WNBA Title Considering the Team’s Potential

Not much has changed for the Aces' starting lineup, at least after the free agency. They lost only three players between that period and in the expansion draft, in the form of Kiah Stokes, Aaliyah Nye, and Megan Gustafson. All three were rotational players with less than ideal minutes under their belt.

The biggest addition would be Chennedy Carter. She averaged 17.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game, while shooting 48.7 percent from the floor in Chicago two seasons ago.

The Aces will follow the “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it” approach next season and continue to rely on A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray, and Jackie Young after giving them seven-figure contracts.

Do you think the 'Big 3' can once again create history by claiming back-to-back WNBA titles, or will a new challenger take over their throne?
