Fans and analysts alike were most excited to see Caitlin Clark back in action when her name was revealed for Team USA’s training camp.

As the players train in North Carolina, analyst Rachel Annamarie DeMita gives her version of what the ideal Team USA roster would look like for the 2026 FIBA World Cup if the selections were made today on her YouTube channel, just yesterday.

And she even spoke on who should be Caitlin Clark's backup PG!

DeMita gave away her starter choice without debate. “Caitlin Clark is currently the best point guard in the WNBA,” DeMita stated. She further added, "We need a backup point guard for Caitlin Clark.”

Looking at the roster, she picked Kelsey Plum. While there were other veteran options like Chelsea Gray, DeMita explained, "I don't want Chelsea Gray to be that backup point guard. I think Kelsey Plum is a better backup point guard. I'm also gonna bring Kelsey Plum on my 2026 FIBA World Cup team, and she's going to be the backup point guard to Caitlin Clark."

DeMita's reasoning was more holistic rather than only focused on who fit better with Caitlin. From a team perspective, she thought Kelsey Plum was the better option.

She described Paige Bueckers as “a better two guard,” making Plum’s role as the primary point guard justified. The Sparks star has great scoring and ball-handling skills that would fit well behind Caitlin Clark.

Other Choices DeMita Made For Caitlin Clark's Team

In addition to point guard and backup picks, DeMita placed Paige Bueckers as the backup shooting guard and swapped Kahleah Copper for Alyssa Thomas.

Her reason was that Kahleah fit better for international play as Thomas nears her career end.
