Angel Reese’s Former Teammate Is Quietly Dominating Overseas

Angel Reese's former teammate put on a show for the Chicago Sky as the team’s leading scorer in 2024. Yet she was left off all WNBA rosters for the 2025 season. Yet, that wasn’t enough to keep her away from pro basketball.
So Chennedy Carter took her talents to the Women's Chinese Basketball Association, and now she’s posting incredible numbers for the WCBA's Shanghai Swordfish.
Carter is leading the Chinese women’s basketball league in scoring, averaging 30.9 points per game. She’s even shooting 52.8% from the field. Yet her dominance isn’t limited to scoring.
The former WNBA star is also adding six rebounds and 4.9 assists per game for the Shanghai Swordfish. This has helped the Chinese team emerge as a leader in points scored, with most games falling in the 90–100 range.
But is her dominance something new? Not really. During her time with the Chicago Sky, Carter proved herself an exceptional player off the bench. She became the sixth candidate for the Player of the Year award, posting 17.5 PPG, 48.7% field goal, and 73.0% free throw percentages.
So, it's safe to say that her performance on the paint isn't what's stopping her from making a WNBA comeback.
Why didn't teams sign Angel Reese's former teammate?
There’s no doubt Carter had a phenomenal 2024 season and remains a top-notch veteran guard. She could help multiple teams, especially with the league welcoming two new expansion franchises, the Portland Fire and the Toronto Tempo, in 2026.
However, the concern surrounding Carter has been her behavior. The Chicago Sky did not re-sign her, much like the Atlanta Dream, the team she played for two seasons after being drafted fourth overall in 2020. Her tenure at Atlanta ended after 2021 due to “conduct detrimental to the team.”
Even in 2022, when she spent the season with the LA Sparks, she was benched due to “poor conduct.” As a result, her behavior continues to be a major concern.
