Angel Reese Breaks Silence on Gruelling CBA Negotiation Process

Mar 8, 2026, 8:45 AM CUT

Angel Reese has been one of the more vocal players regarding the CBA negotiations over the 16 months of its existence. She once again reiterated her stance, with less than 48 hours remaining until the deadline.

"Everybody wants to play but all of us want to play at what we should be compensated for. So we’re just going to continue to negotiate. Negotiation is not easy. I talk to my team all the time, when I negotiate deals, you go back and forth until you come to a common ground of what we both can go for. "

"I’m just going to continue to be a voice and do whatever I can as a young voice that knows that I do have a platform in this. … We do all want to play basketball, but at the same time we do want to be compensated for what we deserve." Reese told journalist Kareem Copeland while at Team USAB practice ahead of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers.

The possibility of a strike is very real as well, as executive director Terri Jackson previously mentioned that the players’ union should wait for the league to come around rather than the other way around.

The union and the league remain far apart in the negotiations. While the WNBPA is seeking a 25% share of gross revenue, the league has only offered 70% of net revenue, which amounts to less than 15% of gross revenue.

The salary cap remains another major point of disagreement, with the WNBPA seeking $9.45 million, while the league has offered $5.75 million in its latest proposal.

Angel Reese has been one of the frontrunners alongside Caitlin Clark, who have helped the league grow exponentially in the past two years. Yet, both stars are still on their rookie contracts, which pay just over $70,000 per year.

Reese putting forward her stance on the CBA negotiations strengthens the union and gives it more bargaining power against the league, especially after speculation about internal fractures following a leaked letter sent by Breanna Stewart and Kelsey Plum.

Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark Reunited Ahead of Team USAB Debut

The two faces of the WNBA will finally reunite on court as teammates. The duo, alongside current Rookie of the Year Paige Bueckers, will all be making their official debut with Team USAB in the FIBA Women's World Cup Qualifiers.

Reese will most likely be filling in as the center throughout the qualifiers in place of an injured Aliyah Boston.

The qualifiers take place from March 11-17 in Puerto Rico. Team USAB will kick off its tournament against Senegal on opening day, followed by a game against the home side the next day.
