Amber Glenn is opening up about a sensitive topic. The Team USA figure skater revealed the challenge of competing on her period, sparking a conversation about women's health in sports.

After a difficult performance in the qualifying round, the American revealed the challenges of competing while on her period, calling it "very difficult and frightening."

“I’m on my period right now, so it’s always really hard, especially when you have to perform in front of the whole world. It’s scary, and it makes you extra emotional, and it’s hard. And you have to go be an athlete despite how you feel," Glenn said during a press conference.

“It’s something that affects many women athletes, and I believe it needs to be talked about,” the 26-year-old said last Thursday.

The topic received widespread attention across all social media. While there were the usual "trolls", the majority of the internet was supportive of bringing awareness to such a sensitive yet important issue.

Amber Glenn has been quite open throughout the Winter Olympics, addressing issues such as lack of privacy for athletes, policies concerning the LGBTQ community, and now the importance of women's health in sports.

Amber Glenn Misses Podium after Mishap in Short Program

Fighting menstrual issues, Glenn faced a rough time during her routine in the women's singles short program. The American failed to hit the ever-so-important triple loop, which cost her a huge amount of points and disrupted the rhythm of her performance.

Glenn ended up scoring 67.39 points, finishing in 13th place. While the 26-year-old made a comeback in later programs, the damage had already been done as she was two spots behind the podium when it was all said and done.

The American was visibly emotional after the result, telling her coach Damon Allen, "I had it" after she came off the ice.

Luckily, her teammates covered for her as the duo of Alysa Liu and Ilia Malinin won gold in singles and doubles events, respectively, keeping Team USA's heads held high.
