Forward Alysha Clark shared her thoughts on the Dallas Wings' atmosphere. She stepped into a franchise that has undergone a significant roster retool ahead of the WNBA 2026 season.
The 3x WNBA Champ signed a one-year deal that adds experience and defensive reliability to a team reshaping its identity. Clark, stepping into her 13th season, emphasized the noticeable shift in the locker room's mindset.
“I think just from day one, coming in, you feel a different air and just understanding what it is that Jose's (Fernandez) wanting, the standard that he has set, and the standard that he's holding us all accountable to and that we're holding ourselves accountable to,” said Alysha Clark, as reported by Landon Thomas on April 26th. “It's something that's super exciting for me.”
Clark’s comments arrive at a time when the Wings are positioning themselves around youth, versatility, and offensive depth. The excitement extends beyond Clark, as the organization secured its second No. 1 pick in two years, selecting guard Azzi Fudd from UConn.
Front-office leadership echoed that optimism. Wings GM Curt Miller expressed his excitement about the roster. “We’re excited about the pieces. It’s going to take a little bit of time for Jose to work his magic and to gel,” said Miller.
Meanwhile, head coach Jose Fernandez pointed to the flexibility of his core group: Paige Bueckers, Arike Ogunbowale, and Azzi Fudd, and noted that they provide multiple scoring and defensive options. The Wings have transitioned into a blend of veterans and rising stars.
With Alysha Clark’s addition, the Wings build a balanced roster
The Dallas Wings continued reinforcing their roster through both the draft and free agency.
Beyond selecting Azzi Fudd, Dallas added forward Zyanna Spearman in the 2026 draft. Known for her athleticism and ability to stretch the floor, Spearman brings perimeter shooting and defensive acumen, particularly in shot blocking.
The team also strengthened its frontcourt, signing experienced forwards Jessica Shepard and Alanna Smith. Smith is known for her latest achievement: being named Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Also, re-signing Arike Ogunbowale further solidified the team’s leadership.
Overall, the Wings combine established scoring options in Bueckers, Ogunbowale, and Fudd. Heading into the preseason match-up against the Indiana Fever on Tuesday night, the league has a lot to watch out for.
