Aliyah Boston Shows Support to Raven Johnson Following Debut vs New York

While Raven Johnson’s records and game speak for themselves, this time around, Aliyah Boston shared her thoughts on the performance.

As a former SEC Defensive Player of the Year and decorated South Carolina star, it is certain what Johnson will be bringing to the Indiana Fever. But Boston’s remarks came off as extra reassurance for the long run.

“Raven shows up every single day, and she’s ready to work, ready to win,” Boston said, following Johnson’s Preseason debut against the New York Liberty. “And so, her being able to go out there and play free and do what she does, great to see.”

As a two-way player with a hallmark defensive impact, Johnson’s “ability to defend on the ball, defend anyone on the floor… (and) to push the pace” are the standout qualities that Boston had to outline.

Moreover, Boston highlighted that “C (Caitlin Clark) loves pushing pace”. So, having “Raven in there, pushing it, the exact same way,” is just an overall great factor for the team, an easy pathway to max out scoring prowess.

Numbers back that claim up, too. Raven Johnson made her debut in front of Indiana Fever fans on April 25 versus the New York Liberty in WNBA preseason action.

The 2026 first-round pick made her presence felt right away, scoring 6 points on a perfect 3-of-3 shooting, 8 assists, 2 blocks, and no turnovers in a convincing 109-91 victory.

That kind of performance fits right into what Indiana is building. Caitlin Clark loves transition play, and with Johnson pushing pace in the same way, Indiana has a potent, fast-paced offensive weapon.

As Johnson’s former South Carolina teammate, Boston’s praise comes from her knowledge of her peer’s capacities. And that understanding goes both ways.

Raven Johnson’s Remarks on Aliyah Boston

By the time Johnson joined the Gamecocks, Boston was nearing the end of her collegiate career. But they’ve still helped South Carolina win the title in 2022. And Johnson never held back from vocalizing Boston’s influence.

“[Boston] taught me so much through my college experience,” she said. “She taught me what pro habits were… her leadership, [being] a role model, goes a long way. She is a phenomenal person and instils so much in young people.”

Her conclusion was, “There’s no way you don’t want to play with somebody like that.” And landing in the Fever has turned those words into reality; teammates again to chase a championship, in a bigger league.

Moving forward, do you think both Boston and Johnson will be able to rerun their title-winning NCAA performance in the WNBA league? Comment it down.
