The No.16 Oklahoma Sooners just handed Dawn Staley’s South Carolina an upset this Thursday. And it's put Aaliyah Chavez in elite company.

Chavez now stands right next to Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers, and Hannah Hidalgo, averaging 19.2 points, 4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game as a freshman in the last 10 seasons.

She racked up 26 points, 4 rebounds, 8 assists, and 5 three-pointers. She shot 9-of-19 from the field with 47.4 FG% and 5-of-10 behind the 3P line.

The guard's career-high was 33 points, set during an overtime game against NC State in December 2025.

She already has the 2025 Gatorade, Naismith, MaxPreps, and Sports Illustrated National Player of the Year awards under her belt.

And now with the victory over the nation’s No.2, the Sooners made it to 15th.

So, What Is the Sooners’ Future With Chavez on Board?

Oklahoma was on a 3-game losing streak before playing against the Gamecocks. They had a 74-69 loss against Ole Miss, a 63-57 loss against Kentucky and a 91-72 from LSU.

“It was big on my teammates, they kept on telling me to keep on shooting”, Chavez said at the postgame press conference. “Sahara [Williams] and Raegan [Beers], both of them, they were like, ‘That's a great shot. I'll take that shot a million times with you.’ So just knowing that they trust me on taking the shots that I was taking, it just brought my confidence up.”

She is a capable scorer and has drawn many comparisons to Clark.

“She got the ball where it needed to go, and she just played. And the joy she played with and the energy she played with, but she had the same energy for her team the whole game.”

They stand against Auburn on January 26th. Will the winning stats follow up on their next game?
