11 Names, One Mission: Toronto Tempo’s Expansion Draft Class Unveiled

Apr 3, 2026, 10:44 PM CUT

The coin toss already gave the Toronto Tempo a boost to kickstart their inaugural WNBA season. They secured the 6th, 22nd, and 36th in the WNBA draft.

Starting with the 2nd in the Expansion draft, they picked the rest in a snake format with the Portland Fire. And now, here’s how the roster looks:

Julie Allemand

The Tempo roster begins with the former Los Angeles Sparks’ star, Julie Allemand, who averaged 5.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists last season.

Julie was the first rookie in WNBA history to average at least 8.0 points, 5.0 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game during her 2020 debut season with the Indiana Fever. So, having the All-Rookie First Team candidate on the roster is the way to go.

Nyara Sabally

Sabally’s biggest flex is that she was on the champion roster. In 2024, she scored 13 points and 7 rebounds in the championship game. That feat alone extended her contract through the 2026 season.

And after playing 3 seasons with the Liberty and averaging 5.4 points and 4.5 rebounds last season, she’ll be calling Toronto her home and will try to become the X-factor for the team’s crucial games

Marina Mabrey

Being the 6th overall pick, this former Connecticut Sun player is a 6-year veteran who also happens to know the locker room culture of the Chicago Sky, Dallas Wings, and the Los Angeles Sparks.

Averaging 14.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in last season, Mabrey will be joining the Tempo with the experience of a 2023 Coppa Italia title winner and other major titles under her belt.

Aaliyah Nye

Nye may not have a solid WNBA profile as Mabrey does, playing just one season with the Las Vegas Aces, but she’s set to be terrifying on the 3P arc, much to Tempo’s benefit.

Nye held the single-season school record for three-pointers made, playing at the University of Alabama. She wrapped up with 1,739 total points. So, the Tempo’s luck on the 3P is set to begin.

Lexi Held

Lexi Held was the All-BIG EAST selection three times during her collegiate days. Her professional career goes beyond the Phoenix Mercury, where she averaged 5.3 points and 1.1 rebounds last year.

After Australia, Hungary, Italy, Poland, and Sweden, Held lands in the Tempo roster. And we’ll soon see if she manages to cross her WNBA career-high 24 points at Tempo or not.

Maria Conde

The last first-round pick for the Tempo, Conde will hit the hardwood as the 2025-26 Italian Supercup MVP. In 2019, she was selected by the Chicago Sky as the 27th pick, but never joined the roster.

Last season, Conde’s Achilles injury didn’t allow her to play for the Golden State Valkyries, despite being on the roster. But now, she’ll bring some international-level play for the Tempo.

Maria Kliundikova

Tempo’s second-round pick started with Kliundikova, who won two EuroLeague Championships with UMMC Ekaterinburg in 2019 and 2021.

Last year with the Minnesota Lynx, Kliundikova averaged 4.4 points and 3.0 rebounds. But as the 11th overall pick in the LA Sparks’ 2018 WNBA Draft, let’s see what she’s got for the Tempo.

Adja Kane

The 20-year-old French Center is going to make her WNBA debut with the Tempo. But she comes with international experience.

Kane represented France in multiple youth tournaments, including the 2021 FIBA U16, 2022 FIBA U17, 2023 FIBA U18 and 2024 FIBA U20. But her WNBA showdown is about to set off.

Nikolina Milic

Milic debuted in the league in 2022 with the Lynx, playing for just 2 seasons. In 2024, the Serbian player signed out of the campaign to play internationally.

Her most dominating success came from the European club competitions, where she represented her country several times. And now, she’ll be hitting the paint in a Tempo jersey.

Kitija Laksa

Playing for the Mercury last season, Laksa averaged 5.9 points and 1.2 rebounds. But this Latvian player’s collegiate career is decorated.

This USF Athletics Hall of Fame inductee will be hitting it off with the Tempo this season, after winning the 2024 EuroLeague Women's championship with Fenerbahçe.

Kristy Wallace

During her 2-season tenure with the Indiana Fever and one season with the Atlanta Dream, Wallace’s best was 6.6 points and 2.3 rebounds.

But she’ll mainly be joining the Tempo as the Australian Guard who’s known for her resilience. While Wallace completes the roster, what’s your take on this team? Comment it down.
